Sony has sold the EVO ownership of the fight for electricity to the Indian game and activity company Nodwin Gaming, which will become a joint EVO owner with RTS (the talent management and branding consulting firm created by the renowned anchor Pokimane). This was the second time in four years that EVO had changed ownership, and Sony had jointly acquired it with RTS in 2021.
Sony, however, did not withdraw completely from the EVO and will support the event as a global sponsor by 2028, and Sony itself is one of the investors in Nodwin Gaming. Phil Rosenberg, Senior Vice-President of Partnership for Global Development, Sony Interactive Recreation said:” When we acquired EVO jointly with RTS in 2021, our goal was to contribute to community development and to show the enthusiasm and skill of battle fans on the global stage. Following the successful holding of the Las Vegas competition and the planned expansion of new areas, the momentum is at its peak. “…
Nodwin Gaming may be a little strange for most players. The Indian company, founded in 2015, has led or co-sponsored events such as the Dreamhack India Station, the Indian Comics Festival, the Valorant Challenger South Asia competition, and various PUBG hand games.
At the same time, the Saudi company Qiddiya, which became a global partner of EVO last year, announced that it would invest in RTS and continue as a global partnership until 2027. Qiddiya is an investor in a large Saudi recreational tourism project and works to build high-tech cities centred on sport, play and recreation.
This change has raised concerns among EVO fans about the future of the competition. During Sony’s shareholding, PS5 occupied a prominent place in the competition each year, including the provision of Sony games such as ” Cosmic Robots ” , ” Sunway: Fighting for Borders ” . Nintendo, however, withdrew from the competition at the same time, and Nintendo Stars were no longer allowed to appear in the EVO. Some of the players speculated that, with the launch of the host rival Sony, the classic combat game might be expected to return in the future.
